Turned Birch (mostly) from Homer Alaska

Betula (Birch) Turning tracks my production of turned wood-  art, functional or both.  My wood comes from local sawmills, windfalls, gifts and sometimes firewood piles.  In southcentral Alaska that mostly means Birch but sometimes Alder, Cottonwood and even Black Spruce.  The local species of Birch can have a range of colors and conditioning the wood through exposure leads to a wide range of appearances.  When nature is finished I start – this winter I have been focused on classic hollow forms and thin walled bowls.
